TAXING TEXTILE IMPORTS: Traders cry put to government
Traders engaged in the importation and sale of textiles are driving a fresh appeal to the gov't to relax the $5 dollar surcharge per kilo of imported materials. Under the Kampala City Traders Association, they are reasoning several containers remain uncleared due to a heavier tax burden of nearly 300m for a 20 feet container. Thabeus Musoke, the Secretary General of City Traders Association, says a new petition to gov't seeks to halt implementation of the 35% levy due to a rigid trend of purchasing power.
