Persons with Disability participation in the democratic processes in general and elections, in particular, are provided for in International, Regional, and National Instruments. According to the Democracy Index 2020, almost 70% of all countries globally recorded a decline in their overall score, as country after country locked down to protect lives from the novel COVID-19 pandemic1. On the African continent, and more particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, the average score fell to its lowest since 2010. The flawed electoral processes and a lack of political pluralism were flagged as the main culprits of poor performance.
