The road to Damascus could never have been paved more clean for Norbert Mao than it was this week when he, in a shocking twist, led his party, The Democratic Party into an agreement with the ruling NRM. The move, that saw Mao appointed Justice and Constitutional Affairs ended a 42-year bitter political row between Museveni and the Democratic Party.
But will the charming, self-assured and tongue-lashing Mao deliver a united DP to the NRM, will his new appointment breathe fresh air into a constitution that the opposition has bitterly contested for four election cycles? Or will it, like the ones before him, be another wipe-out of an established party.
