Health experts urge funding for non-communicable diseases
Health experts have urged the government to prioritize funding for non-communicable diseases due to the increased burden they place on the population, which inadvertently affects several aspects, including economic growth. The call was made today during a health symposium organized by the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau, which hosted a cross-section of actors and partners within the health sector. Non-communicable diseases are a major health problem in Uganda. The age-standardized mortality rate across four major non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, cancer, and diabetes, was 709 per 100,000 in males and 506 in females in 2021.
