A dry spell leaves Katakwi residents, their animals thirsty
About 75 per cent of households in Africa meet their water needs from an outside source. According to UNICEF, four out of five people lack safely-managed drinking water, three out of four people lack safely managed sanitation, and seven out of ten do not have basic hygiene services. In some sub-counties, in Katakwi district human beings and cattle share the same boreholes. The situation was dire during the dry season, prompting local leaders to call on the government to build valley dams in the district to ensure a sustainable supply of water throughout the year.
