Richard Lumu tables controversial Administration Of Parliament Bill
Mityana South MP Richard Lumu has today tabled his controversial private member's bill, dubbed the Administration of Parliament Amendment Bill 2024, amid stiff opposition from a section of MPs, who called his move unfair. Several legislators questioned why similar amendments to the same Act had been ignored despite being presented earlier, contrary to what happened with Lumu. Today, Richard Lumu had his bill read for the first time on the floor of parliament and sent to the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee for scrutiny. The bill, among others, seeks to have the Leader of Opposition voted for, differing from the current practice where the party with the largest number of opposition MPs in parliament appoints the leader .
