1st marine cable to take power to Kalangala island
Uganda will lay its first marine electricity cable in one year, a 32 billion shillings power project to Kalangala which for the first time will see an island receive main Grid Power. The 7KM marine cable will be laid by Chinese company CCC Penjing Industrial Company. This should according to the energy minister help lower the tariff but also extend quick electricity to enterprises at the island. The project the first of it’s kind in the country according to the minister once complete should also bring power to an estimated 1140 households on some 87 islands in Kalangala.
