Up to 30 trucks carrying potatoes parked over new taxes
The Uganda Revenue Authority says that up to 30 trucks carrying Irish potatoes from Kenya and heading to Uganda are stuck at the Busia border due to a new tax policy. Importers of Irish potatoes say they have been paying 120,000 in withholding tax for each truck, which has now been doubled. Hajji Ali Mande, the chairperson of the Uganda Clearing Agents and Forwarding Association, says the URA started levying the tax last week.
