MERGING AGENCIES: Will government achieve a lean administration?
Over three thousand employees of the various government agencies will lose their jobs after a proposed merger of different authorities and government agencies. Catherine Bitarakwate the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public service has said that merging of over 80 agencies will begin in the next financial year which begins in July. Government hopes to save about one trillion shillings through merging the agencies. However, some public policy experts have argued that though some money will be saved, efficiency in service delivery is likely to be hampered.
