African governments asked to do more to protect local foods
Agroecologists and African chefs are urging African governments and parliaments to establish a special day in each country to promote traditional foods. This call comes as concerns grow over the disappearance of African traditional foods and seeds, which are being replaced by conventional and hybrid options. They are also advocating for the incorporation of indigenous knowledge into policies in order to strengthen the African food system. BENJAMIN JUMBE reports.
