EC says candidates can spend the night in any district
The Electoral Commission has condemned the police for blocking presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi from accessing a hotel in Nakasongola where he wanted to spend a night on Thursday, enroute to Kyankwanzi District. According to the police, Kyagulanyi was not scheduled to be in Nakasongola District. The acting Spokesman of the Electoral Commission, Paul Bukenya told NTV that a presidential candidate has a right to spend the night in any district while on transit because it may not be safe for the candidates to travel at night.Earlier, the Electoral Commission Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama, wrote to the Inspector General of police, raising concern that police had stopped candidates from addressing scheduled meetings and campaigning on radio.
