Court hears petition to legally establish khadi courts
The Constitutional Court has concluded hearing a petition filed by Muslim lawyers seeking a parliamentary law to formally establish khadi courts to handle Muslim-related matters of marriage and divorce. The petition, submitted in April last year by Dr. Ashah Mwanga Mastullah and the Islamic Women’s Initiative for Justice, Law, and Peace, argues that while khadi courts currently operate informally, they lack legal recognition and the authority to enforce decisions on such matters.
