ICC T20 WORLD CUP QUALIFIER: Uganda through to semis after thrashing Sierra Leone
Immediate past Victoria Pearls skipper Kevin Awino’s batting exploits have helped secure Uganda’s senior women cricket team a semifinal place at the ongoing International Cricket Council Women’s 2020 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Gaborone. Awino, who was promoted to open Uganda’s innings, stroked a chance-less 39 runs as the Victoria Pearls chased down a target of 87 runs set by Sierra Leone in just 12.5 overs. Earlier, slow bowler Stephanie Nampiina had picked up three wickets for just 18 runs as Sierra Leone stitched together 86 runs for eight in their allotted 20 overs at the Botswana Cricket Association Oval. Uganda will now face Zimbabwe in the semifinals of the continental showpiece. The winner of the continental showpiece will secure a ticket to the Global Qualifier due to be staged in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare next year.
