Taxi drivers protest new traffic fines, cite lack of consultation
Last month, the government introduced a series of comprehensive traffic directives and penalties to enhance road safety across Ugandan roads. On Tuesday this week, the new directives came into effect, including cash fines for drivers caught violating the rules. In response, drivers under the Uganda Taxi Operators Federation (UTOF) have criticized the regulations, calling them unfair. They plan to write to Parliament to formally protest the fines imposed on drivers who violate traffic laws. The drivers argue that there was insufficient consultation before the new directives were put in place.
