Mwenge North and Busongora South MPs retain their seats
Elsewhere in Fort Portal, the High Court there has dismissed two election petitions with costs after the petitioners failed to adduce sufficient evidence. Former MP Jackson Mbaju had sought to overturn the election of Thembo Gideon Mujungu as Busogora South MP in Kasese district, because he lacked academic qualifications and that his nomination was marred by malpractice.
The court also heard Lawrence Akugizibwe had sought to overturn the election of David Muhumuza for Mwenge North in Kyenjojo district on the grounds that there was voter bribery, intimidation of voters and noncompliance with the law by the electoral commission. However, Justice Victorious Katamba dismissed both petitions for insufficient evidence. Three Justices Jesse Byaruhanga, Victorious Katamba and Jeanne Rwakakooko have been camped at the High Court in Fort Portal to hearing 13 election petitions, five of which have already been resolved, while three were withdrawn by the petitioners.
