Kween residents demand answers over rising cattle rustling and fatal shooting
Residents of Kween District are calling on security officials to address the rising cases of cattle rustling in the area. This follows a recent incident in which a farmer was shot dead in Chepterre Village, Chepusuguya Town Council.
The deceased, identified as 63-year-old Ibrahim Takataka, was reportedly shot in the chest by suspected cattle rustlers from Karamoja as he attempted to return home, bypassing his brother’s kraal.
Tensions escalated when residents tried to retrieve Takataka’s body. Police responded with tear gas and live bullets, mistaking the gathering for a protest.
Takataka has since been laid to rest, but the incident has sparked outrage and fear among locals, who continue to demand accountability and stronger security measures.
