A large number of independent candidates have been nominated to campaign for local government positions as well as Members of Parliament. And it appears many of them could win the elections. However, the debate is raging on whether independents undermine multiparty politics yet the constitution guarantees the rights of citizens to politically associate as they wish; whether within political parties or as independents.
