TRADERS GIVE TWO WEEKS ULTIMATUM: Duties on fabric must return to 25%
There is a stand off between government and traders now contesting the 35% tax increment on imported textiles fabrics and garments from the current 25% or 3.5 dollars per kilogram. In it’s August letter to the URA maintained policy positions on all locally manufactured fabrics and garments and a fixed percentage value on garments and textiles that are not locally manufactured. Traders have therefore issued an ultimatum warning that they will close their businesses in response to what they termed as a tariff barrier.
