SIMI Mobile - Engo Holding Limited has launched the MECHA smartphone, marking a significant step in Uganda’s tech and manufacturing sectors. With manufacturing contributing 26.5% to Uganda’s GDP, this move aims to position Uganda as a key player in the global smartphone industry. The MECHA is designed to meet the growing demand for affordable, high-quality devices locally and internationally. SIMI Engo’s manufacturing plant in Namanve will produce smartphones that cater to both local and global markets, with the MECHA phone set to compete with established global brands. The launch represents a commitment to innovation, job creation, and boosting Uganda’s digital economy, positioning the country as an emerging hub for tech innovation in Africa.
