Mulago hospital director Dr Baterana Byarugaba interdicted
Mulago Hospital Executive Director Dr Byarugaba Baterana has been released on police bond after he was arrested by the State House Health Monitoring Unit on Tuesday. Baterana is being investigated for alleged abuse of office, embezzlement and causing financial loss to the government. Dr Baterana’s Lawyer Jotham Mugarura told NTV that they would challenge his interdiction from duty which they say is illegal. A letter purportedly authored by the permanent secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr Diana Atwine asked Baterana to hand over the office. Dr Baterena and five others are accused of mismanaging over 28 billion shillings at Mulago Hospital.
