Health Minister raises red flag about unscrupulous labs
Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has raised concerns about certain laboratories issuing incorrect diagnoses for typhoid and brucellosis. She says these labs are misleading the public with inaccurate results, leading to unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions and increasing the risk of antimicrobial resistance. This resistance occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of severe illness or death. Dr. Aceng mentioned that the Ministry of Health plans to issue new guidelines to improve testing for these diseases in Uganda.
