Government tax measures cripple budding beer industry
Cassava farmers are weeping into their handkerchiefs following a raft of special tax measures on locally made beer, that have made it impossible for breweries to buy their crop for production into beer. This follows campaigns by among others the central government and the Buganda kingdom for farmers to plant Cassava to back plans to produce Engule beer. The farmers have virtually abandoned the drive after the tax measures were imposed in 2018.
