Busia traders resort to smuggling maize to avoid losses
Some Maize traders at the Busia Border with Kenya have resorted to smuggling as their grain risks rotting in warehouses. This after the Kenyan Government began enforcing strict measures regarding the importation of maize from Uganda claiming it had a high content of deadly aflatoxins. The Kenya National Cross-Border trade chairperson says the demand for maize, which is the staple food for most Kenyans, has gone up and it is the people across the border in Kenya who are abating the legal trade.
