Busia municipal officials, Shell workers remanded over fuel fraud charges
Seven people, including Busia municipal officials and Shell Uganda Busia branch workers, are spending the weekend in Masafu prison after being charged with corruption by a Busia court.
According to the prosecution, the suspects face seven counts of fraud related to activities that occurred between 2023 and 2024. The charge sheet indicates that they conspired to steal funds meant for purchasing fuel for the Busia municipal council.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Thomas Okoth, the officials pleaded not guilty. They were remanded to Masafu government prison until 30 May 2025.
