Why Uganda buys produce from neighboring countries
Nowadays, it is rare to find Ugandan produce on the markets. Instead, crops like rice, groundnuts, beans, maize, among others, are now being imported from Tanzania, Kenya, and even Ethiopia. Farmers that NTV has spoken to blamed middlemen for deliberately paying low prices for their produce. However, the traders say the poor quality and storage of local produce has forced them to seek supplies from neighboring countries.
