Maize prices shoot up despite bumper harvest
Despite a bumper harvest for the maize crop, millers have expressed shock at the skyrocketing prices now ranging between 900,000-950,000 shillings per metric tonne. Jacob Kabondo, the national coordinator of wealth creation Uganda millers association, says this rise in prices could be attributed to the drought that hit major producing areas of Masindi, Mubende, Kibaale Kagaadi and Kiryandongo, a situation that could result in low yields this season.
