FDC elders urge Amuriat to step down for Nandala to prevent further party split
Elders and religious leaders from the Teso and Bugisu sub-regions are appealing to FDC Party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi to step aside in favor of Nathan Nandala Mafabi in the race for the party’s presidential flag.
During a meeting held in Mbale yesterday, the delegates urged Amuriat to save the party from the financial burden of holding a delegates' conference, expressing concern that the FDC could face deeper divisions.
The Forum for Democratic Change has already endured two major splits, which gave rise to the People’s Front for Freedom Party and the Alliance for National Unity. According to the elders, these breakaway factions emerged from tensions sparked during previous delegates' conferences.
