CORRUPTION IN GOVERNMENT: Kasaija blames low pay for civil servants
Finance minister Matia Kasaija has spoken out on recent accusations of corruption in his sector, saying the vice is the result of the unresolved old problem of low pay for civil servants. He adds that he has directed the public service ministry to expedite the salary rationalisation programme, a move he believes will rid government departments of corruption. In June, during the state of the nation address, President Yoweri Museveni said, the vice starts at the ministry of finance “where projects are designed with extras”.
