Uganda eyes coffee export growth amid U.S. tariff setback
Uganda has just started making headway into U.S supermarkets, sending roasted coffee to the world’s largest economy, before a new 15% tariff introduced by President Trump takes a toll on the country’s prized beans. Now the Odrek Rwabwongo, the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development, says the agency is focused on strengthening the country’s competitive edge in global markets. According to the central bank data, the U.S. received 6% of Uganda’s total exports in 2023. In return, Uganda imported about $60 million worth of U.S. goods, including machinery, pharmaceuticals, and vehicles.
