Why the multiparty system is failing to take root in Uganda
In the July 2008 referendum, 90 percent of Ugandans voted to adopt a multiparty system of government. Before that, the country was governed under a one-party Movement system. Since then, there have been numerous challenges, with some commentators arguing that the country is still effectively ruled by one party, as opposition parties are treated as unpatriotic.
