Report reveals spike in online abuse of women politicians
A new report on online violence against women in politics has revealed that abuse is amplified during election periods. Civil society organizations promoting women’s participation in politics are calling for the strengthening of laws to address targeted attacks on women in politics, including sexual harassment. With a focus on the 2021 elections, the report further noted that the use of social media platforms for engaging with voters and constituents by women politicians remains low in Uganda.
