Health experts caution against consuming fatty acids
Health advocates in Uganda are calling for an immediate ban on industrial Trans Fatty Acids, due to their serious public health risks such as heart disease and other non-communicable diseases. The Uganda National Health Consumers’ Organization, working with the Ministry of Health and Civil society groups, is pushing for strict regulations and has emphasized the urgency of the situation. They are calling upon the central government to expedite the enactment of laws regarding trans fatty acids, with a draft regulation currently in the offing that aligns with the guidelines of the World Health Organization. So far, 50 countries have implemented similar bans.
