New solar plants to limit milk loss, boost incomes
Limited access to energy remains a huge challenge to agricultural production in the country. Most of Uganda’s cattle corridor operates off the electricity grid, which leaves dairy farmers in losses because they can not preserve perishable products like milk without electricity. Now, Heifer International will install five solar photovoltaic plants with a capacity of 88 kWh in Kiboga and Sembabule districts for 4 billion shillings. Collins Muhwezi reports.
