Friends call for immediate release of Julius Ssekitoleko
Ugandan weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko remains in police custody after being deported from the Tokyo Games. The 20-year-old weightlifter’s predicament has split opinions with one school of thought holding that he should be rehabilitated instead of being condemned. Ssekitoleko’s coach Ivan Masakwe and fellow weightlifter Zubair Kubo, who won a bronze from All Africa Games in 2018, belong to that school of thought. They have called upon the government of Uganda to release Ssekitoleko with no charge.
