Lawyers criticize UPDF Bill, plan legal challenge
Lawyers have criticized Parliament over the UPDF Amendment Bill, 2025. The legal practitioners revealed that they have identified loopholes in the Bill that was passed yesterday. They argue that some of the new amendments disregard the ruling of the Supreme Court in the Attorney General vs. Michael Kabiziguruka petition on 31st January this year. The lawyers have also stated that military courts trying civilians is unlawful, an insult to the judicial system and the constitution, and are planning to challenge Parliament’s decision before the courts of law.
