Lawmakers ask Speaker not to suppress anti graft voices
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa says Parliament has not received any formal petition about alleged corruption in the August House. This was during plenary hours after police stopped a group of people from demonstrating at Parliament over reported grand corruption and abuse of power in the August House. Tayebwa, who presided over the sitting, said he would not move around soliciting petitions from MPs and members of the public who want to express their grievances about the management of the legislature. Tayebwa was responding to MPs who complained that it was wrong for police to block people who wanted to demonstrate peacefully against corruption. The lawmakers insist that anti-corruption voices must be heard.
