Sempijja defeated as court halts recount
The Chief Magistrate of Masaka Court has halted the partial recount of votes from the Kalungu East election over a broken seal on one of the ballot boxes. Charles Yeteise was conducting the recount of the votes from 36 polling stations following a petition by former MP Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja who alleged that his polling agents were dismissed from these areas which gave the chance for his political rival to rig the election. Francis Katabaazi Katongole’s application in the High Court to stop the recount was dismissed and the exercise went ahead but was stopped when a ballot box for St. Jude Primary school polling station was discovered to have been tampered with. The court has confirmed NUP’s Katabaazi’s win.
