HEALTH FOCUS: Experts call for increased vigilance against Polio
October 24 is internationally observed as World Polio Day to raise awareness for polio vaccination and eradication of the viral disease. The World Health Organisation uses this day to urge all countries and parents to stay vigilant in the fight against the disease. In Uganda, the ministry of health received over 10M doses of polio vaccines and will conduct a mass vaccination campaign against Type 2 Polio targeting 8.9 million children across the country. This follows the confirmation of positive laboratory tests of environmental samples from Lubigi and Bugolobi sewage treatment plants. In health focus today, Immunisation consultant Dr. Emmanuel Bukalu explains type 2 polio.
