Speaker Kadaga suspends Parliament business, asks government to account for missing MPs

Wednesday August 15 2018

Speaker Kadaga has suspended Parliament business and ordered the first deputy Prime Minister and deputy leader of Government business in parliament Gen. Moses Ali to bring a statement from government explaining the whereabouts of four MPs who were arrested in Arua.

The MPs Paul Mwiru, Gerald Karuhanga, Francis Zaake, and Kyagulanyi Robert aka Bobi Wine, were arrested in Arua during Monday's chaos and up to now, no one knows where they are being held.

The MPs were in Arua to campaign for opposition-leaning contestant Kasiano Wadri, and in the chaos that ensued, President Museveni said the Car that carries his luggage was stoned, while MP Robert Kyagulanyi's driver Yasin Kawuma was shot dead.

Kasiano is in the race to become Arua Municipality MP, where he is competing with 11 other candidates.

The proposal to suspend parliament was moved by the new leader of Opposition Ms Betty Ocan Aol after pictures of MP Francis Zaake in a very bad condition were shared on social media.

The call for the government to explain the whereabouts of MPs comes a day after MPs rejected a statement by the Minister of Internal affairs Gen. Jeje Odong on the same issue.

Gen Jeje Odong told legislators that investigations were underway into the attack on the President’s Car as well as the killing that happened in Arua Town.
