NTV PANORAMA: Paying the price for environmental neglect
A May 2019 ministry of Finance budget monitoring and accountability report detailed that government through the National Development Plan prioritized reduction on the impact of natural disasters and emergencies by developing a country risk vulnerability profile map for the relocation of all at-risk communities, and coordinating timely responses to natural disasters and emergencies. However, the plan is been beset by numerous challenges mainly the lack of a law to govern disaster risk management, and government continuously spending heavily on responding to disasters as opposed to reducing the risks. Meanwhile, this as the country continuously suffers and is increasingly battered by climatic disasters, including floods, mudslides, droughts, rise in warmer temperatures, among others, as a result of the wanton destruction of the environment and changing climatic patterns.
