Vote counting has started in some constituencies around in Uganda as some individuals continue to vote in others.

The voting process, according to the Electoral Commission (EC), was supposed to end at exactly 4pm. However, multiple voters were still in the lines by closing time.

Paul Bukenya, the EC spokesperson has assured voters that the closing time for polls will not affect those already in line to vote.

“By our guideline, all the people in the line by 4pm continue voting until they are finished,” Bukenya told journalists.

On Thursday, Ugandans exercised their right to choose leaders who will represent them in parliament and the nation as a whole. 11 candidates including the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni are vying for the top seat in the country.

NTV Uganda can confirm that all candidates have voted. National Unity Platforms's (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi cast his vote in Magere, Wakiso where he got emotional after seeing his face on the ballot. National Resistance Movement's (NRM) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Rwakitura, John Katumba voted in Mukono, Nancy Kalembe in Muyenga, FDC's Patrick Amuriat cast his in Kumi, DP's Norbert Mao in Gulu, Fred Mwesigye in Entebbe, Joseph Kabuleeta in Hoima, ANT's Mugisha Muntu in, Henry Tumukunde in Kololo and Willy Mayambala in Luweero

Some of the opposition candidates  have come out to express their disappointment in how the state has managed the elections including heavily deploying security agents and shutting down the internet.

The internet shutdown has many worried as vote counting starts in some constituencies in the country. They believe that this is limiting transparency in a process that should be witnessed by all voters.

“I believe that switching off the internet was a very bad sign. A whole government decided that the nation has no freedom of expression and speech,” only female contender for the presidential seat, Nancy Kalembe said.
