Three people have been arraigned before the Nakawa magistrates court over charges of administering a fake COVID-19 vaccine to several employees of corporate entities and organisations.
The trio includes Francis Baguma; a student of Business Statistics at Makerere University, Kaana Hajab; a nurse attached to Kiswa Health center III and Katushabe Gloria; a mid-wife and the proprietor of G-Marts medical center in Gayaza.
The three are facing counts in which the prosecution accuses them of administering the purported COVID-19 drug to people, well knowing it can cause them harm.
The group is further charged with conspiring to defraud the said corporate organisations of UGX 8.4 million as a cost for administering the vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine is free of charge. They also face another charge of being in possession of government stores/property.
Baguma and Kaana have been remanded to Kitalya and Kigo government prisons respectively while Katushabe has been released on a non-cash bail of UGX 1 Million because she is 5 months pregnant.
This brings the number of suspects in this case to 5 after 2 nursing students; Vannesa Nassuna and Nakiwolo Rebbeca were charged before.
Chief magistrate Dr. Douglas Singiza has ordered all 5 suspects to return to court on the 10th/August to check on the state of police investigations.
