The Deputy IGP, Paul Loketch shows the media a pictures of Hussein Lubwama who is believed to have killed Brenda Nantongo and Sergeant Hassan Kayondo during an attack on Gen Katumba Wamala.
The Police have arrested the individuals they believe were involved in the attempted assassination of Gen Katumba Wamala that led to the death of his daughter, Brenda Nanntongo, and driver, Sergeant Hassan Kayondo
In a press briefing, the Deputy IGP, Paul Loketch said that the shooters were found after 3 weeks of surveillance which was collaborated with technical and human intelligence. He adds that the shooters are connected to the ADF rebels in the eastern Democratic Republic of Uganda.
The suspects include Hussein Wahab Lubwama. Loketch says that Lubwama is the individual that shot at the right side of Gen Katumba’s vehicle killing his daughter and driver.
“This is the person who was wearing a striped (checkered) shirt,” Loketch told journalists.
Lubwama, who was nicknamed “Master” by his peers, has been killed in a confrontation with the police less than 24 hours ago, the Deputy IGP says. It is said that Lubwama was very well trained in martial arts.
Lubwama is said to have worked with a “Kanabe” who is believed to have shot at the left side of Gen Katumba’s vehicle. According to the police, Kanabe was being ridden by a Kamada Walusimbi, commonly known as “Mudinka.” Both individuals are in police custody.
Loketch says that the shooters were assisted by an individual called Muhammed Kagugube. Kagugube is said to have been at Oryx Petrol Station in Bukoto and was given the gun that killed Brenda after the horrifying deed.

The gun was later taken to the residence of an individual only identified as “Amin” before it was wrapped in banana leaves and moved to another place of a "Mukwase". The police have raided Amin’s residence and say that they have found materials for making explosives. Amin has also been arrested by the police.
According to the Police, these individuals only executed orders given to name by a "Sheikh Obadia" who has been labeled the mastermind of the attack. Sheikh Obadia is currently on the run and the police are searching for him.
Loketch says that these ADF individuals have been involved in other major crime incidents within Kampala.
“These are the same people involved in the Kaweesi shooting and the Nansana cheap hardware robbery,” Loketch told journalists.

Earlier, a Joint security team led by Police Crime Intelligence personnel locked down three zones in Kawempe Division for more than six hours as they carried out a search to arrest three suspects in an attempted assassination of Gen Edward Katumba Wamala last month.
Heavily armed personnel in plain clothes and black uniforms put Lugoba, Kaziga and Kibwa zones under lock down on Monday until they arrested suspects whom they claimed were under their watch list, but had hid in the house a few days after the shooting.
Gen Katumba was shot and injured while in his army vehicle by armed assailants, who were riding motorcycles. His daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo were shot dead by the assailants on Kisota Road in Kisaasi, a Kampala suburb on June 1.
Two suspects, Ismael Hussein Sserubula and Siraji Yusuf Nyanzi, were later arrested and charged in court and remanded to prison with the murder of Nantongo and Kayondo, and attempted murder of Gen Katumba.
Crime Intelligence sources said the suspects were tracked using the new technical capabilities that were acquired under the smart city project.
The Deputy IGP has appealed to Ugandans to help the force identify bad guys.
“We have to do all it takes to protect the lives and property of Ugandans,” he said.
