One arrested as Police investigate raid on late Archbishop Lwanga’s home

The Police are investigating an incident of aggravated robbery that occurred at the ancestral home of the late Archbishop of Kampala Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga’s in Kyabakadde, Mukono district on Friday morning.

According to a statement from ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy Spokesperson of the Kampala Metropolitan Police, unidentified individuals dressed in civilian clothes and wearing face masks attacked the late Archbishops’s residence at around 1 am in the night. Police’s investigation suggests that the raiders were more than 15.

“They attacked the occupants in the house and robbed them of mobile phones and cash totalling to UGX 250,000,” Luke Owoyesigyire’s statement reads.

The police have confirmed that a single individual has so far, been arrested in connection to the crime. According to the statement from the police, the suspect, who lives in the same home, went missing during the robbery.

“He resurfaced at 6 am , creating suspicion that he might have been behind the robbery,” the stamens from ASP Owoyesigyire reads.

A hunt is on for the other suspects.

The late Archbishop Dr Cyprian Lwanga died on Saturday, 3rd April 2021 after celebrating the traditional “way of the cross” that precedes Easter Sunday.. He succumbed to Ischemic heart disease.

On April 6th 2021, the Archbishop’s body was taken to his ancestral home Kyabakade village, Kyampisi Sub-County, Mukono district where hundreds of mourners awaited it.  Dr Lwanga was later buried on Thursday, 8th April 2021 aside Rubaga Cathedral, Kampala.
