NRM blames Rukungiri by-election defeat on errant party members

Bamukwatsa Betty of the FDC was on Monday morning declared the winner of the hotly contested Runkungiri district woman Member of Parliament seat.

Betty polled 50,611 votes beating NRMs Masiko Winifred Komuhangi who polled 46,379 votes.

The ruling NRM party blamed its defeat on errant party members who refused to tow the party line.

In a statement, the party spokesperson Rogers Mulindwa also noted that the party's support in Rukungiri has grown.

'Our support in Rukungiri district has continued to grow into a fertile ground for hope in the future elections' He said.

The party has however not announced its next move.

In his statement, Mulindwa says the Secretary-General Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba will table these results before the party's Central Executive Committee ( CEC ) for further administrative guidance.
