Muhammed Kirumira died on his way to hospital

The former Buyende district Police Commander, Muhammed Kirumira has died due to injuries sustained after he was shot at in Bulenga together with his wife. Kirumira was rushed to hospital after the shooting but died before he could arrive at the hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival at Rubaga Hospital this evening. His wife died at the scene of the crime.

The couple were driving home in the family vehicle from a function when they were sprayed with bullets by unknown gunmen on a Boda Boda on Mityana Road bear Bulenga. Social media burst with the news after some gruesome pictures were shared on the various platforms.

This year, Kirumira has been a very big critic of the Police Institution and majorly the former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura.

The police has released a statement confirming the death of its former employee. The Police spokes person Emilian Kayima also confirmed that the vehicle Kirumira was driving is still at the scene of the crime. In the statement, police has condemned criminal act and has promised to hunt down the criminals.

Kirumira who was a commander for the Buyende district police earlier this year, turned his guns towards his security institution and employers, and publicly criticized them.

He was charged for neglect of duty, corruption charges and irregular misconduct. Back in January 2018 Flying squad Unit operatives forced their way into ASP Kirumira’s house in Bulenga, Wakiso District before whisking him to detention. Two of the charges against him were later dropped.

Back in April 2018, the police Disciplinary Court chaired by Denis Odongpiny recommended that ASP Kirumira be demoted after it found him guilty of unlawful; or unnecessary excessive use of authority contrary to section 44(1) and 24(a) of the Uganda Police code.

Muhammed Kirumira’s shooting makes the second this year of a public figure after Ibrahim Abiriga. In terms of high Profile Police personnel, he is the second in two years after Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
