A former security officer who, at the time of the incident where businessmen Mathew Kanyamunyu allegedly shot a children’s rights activist Kenneth Akena, was working for Nakasero Hospital has on Thursday testified that he witnessed the accused handing a gun over to his brother, Joseph Kanyamunyu.

Witness Number 4, Robert Mutebi was concluding his testimony at the high court in a case against Mathew Kanyamunyu, his brother Joseph and girlfriend Cynthia Munywangari who are said to have shot Akena after he scratched their car.

On Wednesday 8th January 2020, some witnesses testified that the deceased was, at a point during the tragic night, taken to Nakasero Hospital. This was after he had been rushed to UNIVIC medical centre where doctors, after determining that he was in a critical condition, advised for him to be transferred to a Hospital.

The witness, Robert Mutebi had, also on Wednesday, stated that medical personnel at Nakasero Hospital had asked Akena what happened. Mutebi says that Akena had identified Mathew Kanyamunyu as the person who shot him. It was at this point, according to Mutebi, that the medical personnel ordered him not to let Kanyamunyu and girlfriend Munywangari leave.

Today, Mutebi told court that Mathew Kanyamunyu had handed a gun and a laptop bag to an individual in the Parking lot of the Nakasero Hospital. Mutebi identified this individual as Joseph Kanyamunyu who is not present for the trial.

The death of Kenneth Akena happened in 2016. Yesterday, Wednesday 8th January is when the trial against Mathew Kanyamunyu, Joseph Kanyamunu and Cynthia Munywangari started.
