Kivejinja has died of COVID-19 - President Museveni

The President, Yoweri Kaguta has said that former Second Deputy Prime Minister, Kirunda Kivejinja has died of COVID-19.


The President was speaking at a rally in Hoima City where the NRM camp has been pushing thier agenda in the hope of taking 2021.


Kirunda Kivejinja has served the government of Uganda for 32 years. He was a political mobiliser for the Uganda People’s Congress in the 1960s. He would later serve in several positions in the NRM government including being a Minister of Relief and Social Rehabilitation, Minister of Internal affairs, Third Deputy Prime Minister, Senior Presidential Advisor for internal affairs and lastly, the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs.

 

Kivejinja has been eulogized by his colleagues in government’s top positions including the Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda who called him a friend and Comrade.


“His passing is a huge loss to the country, of a great Pan Africanist & repository of our history and journey of social, political and Economic transformation,” Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda tweeted about his former colleague.

 

The Minister of ICT, Judith Nabakooba has also reacted to his death on social media stating that the government and NRM stand with him and his family.

 

“He was a true patriot,a mentor to many and a great man for those that had a chance to interact with him,” ICT Minister Judith Nabvakooba tweeted.


Kirunda Kivejinja was born on 12th June 1935 in Kaliro. He died at 85. He studied Zoology in Delhi University, India and has been a politician since 1962 when Uganda got her independence.
