The Police have said that the burial of one of Robert Kyagulanyi’s bodyguards, Francis Senteza Kalibala may have interfered with the investigation into his death.
In a statement released by the Police, the institution’s spokesperson, Fred Enanga said that Kalibala’s burial on Monday was done before they could do examination on Post mortem.
On Sunday, the body of Francis Senteza Kalibala commonly known as Frank was released with post mortem forms by Rubaga hospital to close relatives and National Unity Platform (NUP) members according to the police statement.
“Unfortunately, they diverted the Ambulance and the body of the victim to the NUP offices in Kamwokya, where a vigil was held,” Enanga says in the statement.
The statement goes on to say that the police engaged with the family of the deceased and came to an agreement to have the body examined in Masaka where his ancestral home is. A chopper with pathologists was sent to the area to carry out the post mortem.
“Despite clearance from the family, several NUP supporters who were aggressive blocked police efforts to have the body of the deceased examined by a joint team of medical experts,” Enanga says.
The Police now want to get a court order to exhume the body of Frank for post mortem.
Francis Senteza Kalibala was reportedly knocked on Sunday as the Kyadondo East MP’s convoy drove journalist Ashraf Kasirye from Masaka to Kampala for further medical attention after he was injured as police dispersed NUP supporters in Masaka.
However, in a statement on Sunday evening, UPDF dismissed reports that Ssenteza was run over by a military truck. The UPDF spokesperson, Brig Flavia Byekwaso said Senteza fell off a speeding car registration number UBF 850Z.
