A team of engineering experts have instituted an investigation into what could have caused the collapse of a building in Jinja.

The team is comprised of engineers from the ministry of works, Uganda institute of professional engineers, the Uganda society of architects, Engineers registration board, Architect registration council and the National building review board.

This comes after the realisation that then plans for the construction of the building had passed through the Jinja Municipal authorities.

“Jinja authorities have approved had approved this construction,” Rajab Kitto the Municipal council spokesperson confirmed.

On Wednesday evening, the said building, which is on Gokhale road next to Jinja Senior Secondary School and Madhvani market, that was still under construction collapsed trapping builders and other individuals in its rubble.

At least five people have been confirmed dead in the incident but there are fears that several people are still trapped.
